Review - Mamma Mia!

Movie Review
Mamma Mia!

Ladies and gentlemen….

Quick...where's the bleach for my eyes
 Mr. James Bond.

What I have just watched is the most pathetic excuse for a ‘movie’ I have ever seen.  At no time did any of the ‘musical numbers’ come close to anything approaching anything which could by any stretch of the imagination be termed, even by the loosest and most generous definition, a ’performance’.  I could feel large sections of my brain dying as I watched it.

As I sit here in front of the TV, stunned, drained, I can only think that the producers of Mamma Mia! really dropped the ball in not insisting that Keanu Reeves be involved in some way.

I award this movie no stars, and may God have mercy on its soul.

Wow! I haven’t seen it but I was afraid it might be that way! I would be curious to know your review of Across the Universe or Moulin Rouge just to see how our ‘musical tastes’ may (or may not) vary.

Now I laughed all the way through that review…i mean out loud.
And the picture is priceless. I had heard this was a stinker…besided I don’t do musicals. You were priceless Chris….right on.

I received both the soundtrack and the movie as two of my Hanukkah presents. So far, I’ve only listened to the soundtrack, but I enjoyed it. When I watch the movie, I’ll let you know what I think. I’m more of an ABBA fan than a James Bond fan, so my review may be a bit different from yours. ;p

I haven’t seen Across the Universe, but I like Beatles music. I saw Moulin Rouge, but it was a very long time ago. All I remember thinking was
    YAWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
    and also
Aww look at little Obi Wan Kenobi singing.

I, too, disagree. Although I did not like some of the musical numbers, I did enjoy the music of ABBA and the story line. I think it was probably better on Broadway, and I am making a point to find out. If nothing else, it allowed my 9 year old to like ABBA.

I didn’t hate it…but there were several really bad parts. Most of them involved Pierce. And I’m a huge Colin Firth fan, but his little part at the end of the movie made me roll my eyes. The main girl was cute, I thought…and Meryl did a pretty decent job. A few of the songs were entertaining, I thought, but it’s not a movie that I need to see again.

OK! Sounds like I’ve dodged a bullet here on this one! Thanks!!

I seriously enjoyed Across the Universe and am looking forward to it being on stage. I could live a long and happy life if I never see or hear of Moulin Rouge! again.

Come on people. It was bad. Bad bad bad bad bad. If anyone likes ABBA after seeing this, it’s cz of the fact that a bad movie can’t keep it quiet that lots of ABBA songs are great. So I can see someone liking ABBA afer seeing it, but it would be absolutely no thanks to the movie.

Cottonmouth was a good way to describe James Bond’s ’singing’.

I’d like to go on about how bad the performances were, but I don’t think it matters…I really can’t imagine this movie being good even if it’d had good singers, which it most certainly did not. But they guaranteed it wouldn’t be good by casting it with exclusively bad singers. The only one who showed the slightest glimmer of talent was the blonde daughter who was getting married.

I also can’t imagine the Broadway version being any good either, unless it is drastically dramatically completely different from the movie.

And I didn’t quite understand the end…did Colin Firth turn gay? Just at the point when I thought it couldn’t get worse…it got worse.

Ahh who cares. I’ve devoted way more time to this movie than it deserves.

Loved Muriel’s wedding………….and I’m not a huge ABBA fan. Was a few years ago tho…..who was that? Toni Collete? I only made it thru about 10 minutes of Moulin Rouge. The stage show of Mama Mia is hugely popular…….but then, so was Cats. I’m something like #54 on the waiting list at the library for Mama Mia.

You’re kidding, right? There’s a waiting list? Well I guess there’re at least 54 oblivious people out there who’re due for a night of disappointment.
