Jeopardy in real life
Posted in TV on September 22nd, 2005 by ChrisMany of you will remember my scathing comments about the game show Jeopardy (September 1). “Oh, man,” you’re thinking, “were those comments ever scathing!” Well they were certainly scathing, there’s no doubt about it. I was scathing all over Jeopardy. When I got done with it, Jeopardy was so freaking scathed…
Okay, I have used the word ’scathing’ so much now that it has lost all meaning, not that it had all that much to begin with, so I am now going to quit using it. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like the show Jeopardy; if I didn’t I wouldn’t've bothered to write about all the things that inspire such, uh, scathingness. And to be fair, my point-of-view is that of the casual Jeopardy viewer, just an average guy of average intelligence. (Perhaps I flatter myself.) But I have no inside knowledge of the workings of game shows or what is involved in the production of a television program such as Jeopardy.
Would seeing the show from a different perspective, from that of a participant, an insider, someone behind-the-scenes, CHANGE my opinions about Jeopardy? In short, what if I saw Jeopardy live, as it was being recorded? Would I be less critical then?
Well let me tell you.
No.
